Sorry, that my first entry was so short. I was exhausted when I arrived, and it was difficult to find an Internet cafe that had a wireless Internet connections.
First, some miscellaneous ramblings from the flight over. The flight was uneventful. In fact, for the first time in five trips across the pond, I actually slept on the plane. I was quite refreshed when we landed. That leads to my second item. As we disembarked the plane, and were walking toward customs, a flight from the Russian Republic landed as well. I have news that Canadians are not the only culture keeping the mullet alive. The Russians would put the Canadians to shame. Not just the mullet, there was the fem-mullet and the chullet. Plus, old clothing styles never die. They are slowly recycled around the globe. Everyone on the flight from Russia looked like they had stepped out of a John Hughes' movie set. Tight jeans, teased hair, sleeveless shirts, you name it. Too funny. One last thing on the flight over. The great human equalizer is a trans-oceanic flight. There was a lady and her daughter that sat in front of me. They were dressed to the nines. D&G glasses, you name it. After sleeping in a seat for 9.5 hours, they looked as bad as I did when we landed. Thank heaven for my hat! :-)
The city is absolutely beautiful. It is very easy to get around. One thing I noticed on the Metro ride to my hotel, was the difference between the elderly citizens and the people our age. The elderly citizens that lived and remember the communist regime behave much like our grandparents that lived through the Great Depression behaved. It is like they do not take anything for granted. Whereas, the younger generation behaves like we do, rampant commercialism. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Europeans may not like American politics, but they can't live without American culture. Everyone has a piece of clothing on that has a logo of some American company.
My hotel is plush! I have a wonderful view of the Vltava river right outside my window. Nice!
On to the city.....
It is just like a Kafka novel. Very confined. Narrow streets and alleyways. It reminds me of Toledo in Spain. You will be walking down the alley/street, then all of the sudden you are spilled out into a square or plaza. I spent the afternoon and evening walking around and taking snapshots. I am not going to label all of the pictures. The highlights are the Old Town Square with the Prague Tower, the Charles River Bridge, and the Prague Castle. There are numerous pictures of the same places. Sorry, but it was too beautiful not to take multiple pictures. I also did one video. Let me know what you think.
Last thing. Classical music is everywhere. I am going to see Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue Friday night in a church courtyard! I can't believe it. One of my favorite pieces being performed while I am here.
Until tomorrow, Scot

I'm still cryin' my river....It's sad you can afford to live in my dream place if you wanted where I'm poor enough to afford to live it my mind. Pick me out my future apartment (job too)...If I have to swim the pond and walk from the border, I'll get there before old age sets up in my bones, all my art ideas have been created, and my memory is all I have to live.
oh the life of your straving artist sister...
